March's Haul

Hello!

It would be an understatement to say I went a liiittle crazy in March with my online shopping trips. In the first days of March, I've received my first Iherb.com order for which I already did a full on haul post you can find here. In spite of all the promises I made to myself that enough with online shopping, when I saw that Cherry Culture was having 40% off sale for all their products, I couldn't resist and ordered some of the goodies I've been wanting for a long while from them.

So on 3rd of March I've passed my order, which was a total of 86$ excluding shipping, for which I've received 40% off. The final amount I've paid was 70.5$, 51.6$ my order + 18.9$ the shipping with USPS 1st Class Intl Mail no Tracking. I've received my package on 25th at my local post office, with no extra taxes to pay. So I waited just a little over 3 weeks to get it.

The people from Cherry Culture were kind to write a smaller value on my package and they didn't left my invoice inside so that I avoided any questions from the post office concerning customs extra taxes or VAT.

I've been browsing Cherry Culture's website for a long time but the shipping is a real issue as it's weight based and if you happen to order nail polishes, it will go overboard. But with the sale of 40%, I did a really good deal, as I earned almost 35$. Anyway, even without the sale, the difference in the prices is still enough to make good deals just by choosing Cherry Culture instead of our local NYX retailers, for instance.

Now let's get on with the the fun part, shall we?

Face items:

  • Avon Makeup Setting Spray, Avon, ~ 3.5 Euro - I've never had a setting spray before so I was curious how well it works at keeping my makeup in place all day long. I've used it a few times, but not enough to form an opinion though. It's a little sticky but it dries out pretty quickly.
  • Rimmel London Fix & Perfect Pro Primer, DM, ~ 6.5 Euro - Again a first in my makeup collection! I used this every day since I've got it and I think it's working great, it minimizes my pores a little and the foundation goes on more even and more flawless on top of this face primer.
  • NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Liquid Foundation #Soft Beige, Cherry Culture, 7.5$ - I use it only 2 times and at first I was scared how light this looked unblended but once I blend it in, it matches me perfectly. And I like how it manages to look good all day, but I still have to put it to test.
  • Milani Baked Blush #Corallina, Cherry Culture, 8$ - One of the main reasons for ordering from Cherry Culture was to get one of Milani's famous Baked Blushes. Sadly, Luminoso was out of stock so I got this coral peachy shade called Corallina. I didn't expected the amount of shimmer it has, but it's not disturbing, it gives a very glowy and dewy looks. And it's sooo pigmented, a little goes a long way.

Eyes items:

  • NYX Single Eyeshadows #Volcano, Sensual, True Taupe, Herb, Cherry Culture, 5.5$ each - Believe it or not, these are my first NYX single eyeshadows and I love them already. They are so pigmented and blend out so nice that they feel like high end shadows.

  • NYX Ultra Pearl Mania Loose Eyeshadows #Mocha, Penny, Fanta, Cherry Culture, 3$ each - I'm more into pigments lately so I couldn't resist getting some of these warmer shades for fun colorful spring makeup looks.

  • Jordana 12HR Made To Last Eyeshadow Pencil #Endless Emerald, Cherry Culture, 4$ - I've been dying to get this jumbo eyepencil for a long time and I'm soo inlove with this deep emerald green shade. Great as a base or as a eyeliner, I'll be getting a lot of use out of this.
  • LA Colors Jumbo Eye Pencil #Sand Castles, Cherry Culture, 2$ - I did a review on other jumbo eye pencils from LA Colors and I really love those shades so I've got also this brown taupe shade, great as a base for my darker neutral eyeshadows.
  • Milani Naturally Chic Shadow Eyez 12 HR Wear #Almond Cream, Cherry Culture, 7$ - This cream nude shade is great as a base, for highlighting under the brow area, in the inner corners of the eyes or on the water line.

  • realTechniques Blush Brush, Iherb, 9$ - Best blush brush I've ever had, it's so big and fluffy and it places the cheek color so naturally.
  • EcoTools Custom Coverage Buffing Brush, Iherb, 6.99$ - I've been wanting a new foundation brush and I quite like it even though it gets a little streaky with liquid face products and it needs a little more blending to really buff in the product.
  • ELF Cosmetics Mineral Powder Brush, Iherb, 3$ - It's a little smaller than what I thought to be but still good to apply powder products to key points on your face.
  • Bdellium Tools Studio Line 787 Eyes Tapered Blending Brush, Iherb, 9.35$ - This is a really big blending brush!
  • Bdellium Tools Studio Line 785 Eyes Tapered Blending Brush, Iherb, 7.23$ - This a little more dense and smaller than the previous one, but it's great for my crease area.
  • EcoTools Airbrush Concealer Brush, Iherb, 3.99$ - I don't really have a concealer brush for my undereye area and I think this one does the job at blending the concealer really nice and quick.
  • Bdellium Tools Green Bamboo Series 780 Eye Pencil Brush, Iherb, 5.76$ - I love this one already, it's the best for point on application of your eyeshadows.
  • ELF Cosmetics Studio Small Angled Brush, Iherb, 3$ - I thought to give a try to another type of eyeliner brush, so I'll see how this works out.

Lip Items:

  • Astor Soft Sensation Lipcolor Butter #Va Va Voum, DM, ~4 Euro - I've been wanting to try out Astor's version of jumbo lip butter crayons so I bought this deep red which actually comes really true to color on the lips and lasts pretty long.
  • NYX Butter Lipstick #Hubba Bubba, Cherry Culture, 6$ - Ever since NYX came out with these butter lipsticks, I've been wanting them. Unfortunately, only this light baby pink was in stock. This is a little too light for my skin tone but with a lipgloss on top I can make it work.
  • Milani Color Statement Lipstick #Nude Creme, Cherry Culture, 5.5$ - This one is already a favorite, it goes on so creamy and opaque and it feels really lightweight. It the perfect nude for me with the right amount of pink and peach.
  • Avon Ultra Colour Matte Lipstick #Matte Rose, Avon, ~3.5 Euro - It's a matte red pink lipstick, great for every day look!
  • Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lip Color #Hot Plum, DM, ~4.5 Euro - This was on my wishlist for a while but I was kind of afraid to try out such a bright color, but I finally decided I can do bright colors!
  • NYX Round Lipstick #Circe, Cherry Culture, 3.5$ - I didn't need another nude lipstick but this one called to me! It's the perfect erase your lips nude, that can make you look dead if not being put in the right combinations!

  • Cherry Culture Lime Lip Balm, Cherry Culture, free - I can't begin with how much I love this little guy here. It smells as limes and it's soo moisturising!
  • ELF Cosmetics Lip Balm Tint #Nude, Iherb, 3$ - It's the perfect nude in the lip balm shape! Very moisturing and creamy but still very opaque.

  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream #Antwerp, Cherry Culture, 6$ - Had to get one of these babies, it's the perfect coral matte lip cream.
  • NYX Butter Gloss #Peaches and Cream, Cherry Culture, 6$ - I got another one of these butter glosses, it goes on so smoothly...

Haircare Items:

  • Nature's Gate Biotin Strenghtening Shampoo, Iherb, 5.47$ - This is quite a change for my hair and I really like how different this shampoo is and it seems it really works for my thin hair.
  • Schwarzkopf Gliss Ultimate Oil Elixir Express Repair Conditioner, DM, ~2.5 Euro - This leave in conditioner should repair my slightly dry ends of my hair.
  • Dove Nourishing Oil Care Weightless Nutri-Oils Daily Treatment Conditioner, gift - This sample helped my hair so much lately, it makes it smooth and healthy looking.
  • Balea Repair+Pflege Express Kur Hair Treatment, DM, ~1 Euro - Had this one before, great for to renew my hair from time to time.
Bodycare Items:

  • Dove Beauty Finish 48 Hr Roll-On Deodorant, Cora, ~2 Euro - I'm trying out new deodorants and this one is pretty good and fresh!
  • Bebe Young Care Shower & Shave Cream, Stock Market, ~0.75 Euro - I was browsing through Stock Market one day and got this mainly for shaving purposes. We'll see if it's any good.
Skincare Items:

  • Cora Maxi Oval Makeup Removing Pads, Cora, ~ 1 Euro - My regular cotton pads that I love so much.
  • Balea Reinigungs Tucher Makeup Removing Wipes, DM, ~1.5 Euro - I came back to my old favorite face wipes.
  • Gala Makeup Removing Wipes, DM, ~1 Euro - Just some regular wipes for quickly cleaning my brushes.

  • Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, DM, ~ 4 Euro - A new loved micellar water that works wonders for my skin.
  • Elmiplant Skin Moisture 24 HR Moisturising Cream, DM, ~ 4 Euro - I've repurchased this one again as I really enjoy how fresh it feels. Plus, it's great for my dry skin patches. And my boyfriend loves it too!

  • Oriflame Outspoken Fresh by Fergie Perfume, gift - My mom gave this to me as it's a little too fresh for her. I'm not really a perfume kind of girl, but I love fresh scents!

Hello, girls!

Today I have for you a quick makeup look I did last weekend for a day outing! I don't know what got into me with this grey themed eye look, not very springy... The truth is that I rarely use grey, black or silver eyeshadows, I'm more on the warm neutral side. But that day I was inspired to use these colors in a lightly manner so that I can wear them during the day without looking too goth.

Review: Paula's Choice Hydralight Shine-Free Daily Mineral Complex SPF 30

$

Hi, ladies!

Today I want to talk about one skincare item that really made a change in my skin improvement journey, Paula's Choice Hydralight Shine-Free Daily Mineral Complex SPF 30. I admit that I didn't actually care about using a daily face cream with SPF untill I came across Paula's Choice line of skincare products and I decided I should start using a BHA exfoliator. Those of you who are familiar with liquid exfoliators know that one requirement is that you should definitely use a sunscreen after as your skin may become more sensible to light, radiations etc.

So my choice was this light moisturiser, adressed for normal/combo/oily skin, with a broad spectrum SPF 30. I've been searching for a long time a daily moisturiser that can actually moisturise my skin and to mattify my problem areas where I tend to get oily : my nose, forehead and chin. My searches finally paid off as this little guy here is my answer!

Let's talk package first. It comes in this squeeze plastic tube with the standard lid on. You get 60 ml of product which is actually good especially since the consistancy is pretty dense and it lasts a long time. I've just finished one of them and it lasted me for about 5 months of almost daily use.  Perhaps I would have liked a different type of packaging as it took a lot of effort to squeeze the last bits out of the tube, maybe a pump.

It comes as a very white, almost thick cream, very dense, but when you start blending it in your skin it's not oily or thick at all. It absorbs so quickly that in 2 minutes I can start putting my makeup on. Being a sunscreen, you need a pretty generous amount, about the size of an almond.

What I enjoy the most is that it leaves my skin sooo smooth and velvety and the smell is not bad. I mean it smells a little like sunscreen, but the smell is very faint.

Untill now, I've been using it only during fall/winter/spring when I'm not so oily in my T zone and I was amazed how matte my skin looked even after more than 10 hours of wear. It's also a great makeup base, my foundation/BB Cream/CC Cream blend in very well on top of this.

Because I have a true combo skin, while my T zone can become an oily mess without the proper care, the area around my mouth and on my jaw can become really dry and dry patches appear every now and then. This moisturiser took care of those areas also, because while I have oily areas, my skin is not actually moisturised enough so I have to use products that mattify the oily T zone and moisturises the other dry areas.

This helped me also a bit with my redness, it's not visible, just a little around my nose, but Hydralight did some good things also for that area so I don't have to correct it with concealer or highlighter anymore.

Overall, I can honestly say that this is probably the best skincare item I ever used, along with my 2% BHA Gel Exfoliator which I'll be reviewing next. I don't know how it will work for those of you with dry skin, but for those who are constantly fighting with oily T zone, deshydratated skin areas, this stuff is great! And using a sunscreen every day is a must, even during winter. I learned this the hard way, so don't do that, always use a daily skincare product with SPF, your skin will thank you later!

You can find it at Paula's Choice website or if you're from Romania, we have our own Paula's Choice online store. It's not a cheap product, it's around 28 Euro, but considering all the good stuff and how long it lasts, I think the price is more than fair.

Review : Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Gel Exfoliant

$

Hi, girls!

As I was telling you last Friday, my skincare routine has changed drastically and for the better, for the last months and one of the items I've included was Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Gel Exfoliant. Basically, a chemical exfoliant is very useful in our skincare routine as it deeply penetrates all the skin layers and cleans up the pores from within, preventing the "deposits" of sebum and dirt, thus the appearance of blackheads, acne and extreme sebum secretion, all the while revealing a radiant, healthy skin.

Now these exfoliants are mainly 2 types: AHA and BHA. AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) helps more with exfolianting at the surface all dead cells and dark spots, which makes it great for dry skin. BHA, the one I'm currently using is destined for combo and oily skin as it regulates the sebum secretion and it unclogs the pores from within. There are many articles written on these, so if you want to know more details, check Paula's Choice website

Now onto the packaging, I have to say that I'm liking it a lot. It's very sturdy and great for travelling with and it has a small pump which gives just the right amount of product you need for one application.I only need a small amount for my whole face (exclueding eye and lips areas of course). The recipient contains 100 ml which should last me for about an year, is that long lasting.

As the title implies, the formula is that of a clear gel. There are differentes version of the 2% BHA in the form of liquid and lotion, but from what I've read, the gel one is the best for combination skin such as mine. As I've stated before, only a small quantity is needed for the whole face and it absorbs really quickly. The trick is to massage it very well into the skin, especially in the problem areas (for me those are my nose, my chin and left cheek). The smell is neutral and very faint, so no frangraces involved. It does get a little tacky and sticky imediatelly after the application but the feeling dissapears in about 5-10 minutes and the skin remains smooth and radiant.

For me, this product was a true revelation that I can really clear my skin and make it look... different. I didn't have many problems with my skin by no means, just some annoying blackheads on my nose and chin, some scarce pimples around my forehead, left cheek and jaw and of course your regular combo skin : oily in the T zone and chin and dry on the cheeks and around my mouth.

Now, after more than 5 months since using it almost daily I can totally see the effects:

  • It regulated the sebum secretion, I don't get as oily as before. BUT the true test will be during summer when I tend to get really oily.
  • It didn't completely eliminate my blackheads, but it made them look smaller and there are a lot fewer. Anyway, the results will be seen in time as sadly blackheads don't dissapear as quickly as we wish it.
  • It made my large pores look smaller and more blurry, just like a primer would do.
  • It eliminated about 80-90% of my acne scars and pimples. Yes, I do get 2-3 pimples during those hormonal days of the month, but they heal so quicky and go away with little effort from my part.
  • My skin looks a lot more glowy and radiant and even-toned. It reduced drastically the redness I had around my nose and mouth.
  • It leaves behind a trully moisturised skin, very smooth and silky. Even on my dry skin areas. The trick is to use a moisturizer afterwards in those areas.
I've been using it only at night, before going to bed in between my cleanser and my moisturizer. And in the morning, I always use a SPF moisturizer which is must when working with chemical exfoliants. I mainly use it once a day, but sometimes I take a brake for 1-2 days when I feel it accentuates my dry skin patches.

I must say it that it didn't replace my face scrub, which I still use once a week for sheading all dead cells and dirt at the surface that my cleanser don't clean away.

Just like the moisturizer I have from Paula's Choice, this guy is not cheap, but considering that it should last for a whole year (before it expires), the investment is more than fair. You can find it here at the price of 24.9 Euro.

Hi, girls!

I'm really starting to put to work all that makeup I collect and do more "put together" makeup looks on a daily basis. Today I have for you a makeup look I wear for a dinner date last weekend with my new baby, Urban Decay's Naked Palette. I know, I'm probably the last on the Naked hype bandwagoon but I've debated with myself for a  long time why I need this as I already own lots of neutral eyeshadows and finally I caved in and put o friend to buy it for me from Sephora France. And it's absolutely gorgeous, but more on that soon!

Anyways, I wanted to do a neutral-gold look inspired by a statement necklace piece I have so Have Baked was the central piece shade of the eye look. I kept the rest very simple (light contouring, nude lips) just to emphasize the eyes.

Review & Swatch : Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation Anti-Fatigue Effect + Radiant Glow #103 True Ivory

Hello!

You might of seen this foundation in my last Empties post, but before I threw it away I remembered that I didn't review it for you guys so I quickly took some photos. Please excuse the messy bottle, it received a lot of love from me :D.

I've got this for some time and even though I still had a little product inside, I feel it's been opened for ages and I don't feel comfortable to put this on my skin as it may be already expired. So long story short, this is not in my collection anymore but I'll probably will repurchase it when I'm done with some of the foundations I currently have opened.

As always, let's talk packaging first. It's GREAT! I mean all liquid/cream foundation should be packed like this : sturdy glass bottle, clear so that you can actually see the color inside, with a small pump on top for correct dosage and hygienic purposes. Rimmel London, you got this right!

As the name states by itself, Wake Me Up claims to give that natural healthy radiant look and an anti-fatigue effect. So for those that don't get a lot of sleep and don't want anyone to notice it, this foundation is the bomb, will give that dewy effect as if you had tons of sleep and you're fresh and ready to go!

If you've read me at all, you know that I'm all for matte skin (being combo skin makes you want this) and tend to buy all face products that promise mattifying the hell out of my T zone and huge pores area. But I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and try out a foundation that make some bold claims that I was totally not used to. I mean at worst, it should have made me shine as a light bulb (or break me out:D), but neither happened. I did use a blotting powder on the T zone to keep oils under control a bit so that I won't look too shiny.

The consistancy is between liquid and cream, it's not very lightweight but it's not heavy at all and it has SPF 15 and some highlighting particles. A little goes a long way so I only use a pump for all my face. I feel that with this foundation I need some pre-application preparations: I need to moisturise and scrub my skin very well before applying it as it will show the dry skin areas. Also it need more blending than other foundations I've tried before and I feel that more I blend it into my skin, the best the final result is. The trick is to have patience and do some blending work and the finish look will be flawless. I personally like to apply it using realTechniques Expert Face Brush or EcoTools Custom Coverage Buffing Brush.

Even though I'm usually lazy and hate to do so much work for a product to look good on me, I love to take the time sometimes and make my skin look flawless and radiant just like I was glowing from inside. I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone, but for my skin, in order to not look cakey, I have to take my time with it. Anyway it's a great foundation especially for those with normal skin and I like how it transforms a tern and tired looking skin into a glowing, sexy look.

Right now I'm using the Wake Me Up concealer and I quite enjoy it (review coming soon) and I'm planning on repurchase the foundation very soon but maybe in  a lighter shade. I had 103 True Ivory, but I think it's a bit too dark for my face right now.

You can find it at all Rimmel London counters, the price is around 8-9 Euro.

Review : Avon Makeup Setting Spray

Hello, ladies!

I found myself quite busy lately so I haven't had a chance to post for the last two days, buuuut I'm going to make up for you just about now. A new addition to my collection is Avon Makeup Setting Spray, which I really put to test lately to see if it's any good. This is the first makeup setting spray I've ever used and while I'm sure that there are way better similar products on the market that do the same job (and better), for the price, I'm not dissapointed at all.

Now the package is very cheap looking, just a dark grey plastic almost clear tube with a classic pump. Nothing too exciting here but hey, at 4 Euro for 125 ml, what can you expect?

It's clear liquid with a pretty defined smell which I don't hate. The formula is also pretty sticky so when I spray it on my face, for 1-2 minutes it feels as if it tightens my skin a bit.

What do I use it for? Well, for setting my makeup with obviously. Than for creating liquid eyeliner or for applying wet eyeshadows. I also like to spray my foundation brush, it really helps to achieve a perfect blended look.

For its main purpose it works pretty good, it makes my makeup stay in place longer, I like to use it mainly for more sofisticated looks when I use a lot more products than on a daily basis and I need the extra help for keeping everything in place. I actually think it does something to matiffy my problem areas.

Overall I don't feel this an unique product, nor do I feel it makes a whole lot of difference but it's great heving it around as it's multitasking. For me this is a plus so I'll probably rebuy it when it's done if I don't want to splurge on a more expensive product.

Review : Jergens Ultra Healing Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer

Hi, girls!

I'm back in the reviews wagoon with a short post on this little guy here, Jergens Ultra Healing Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer. I've got it some time ago from my brother when he came back from a military camp in Germany. They had received several of these moisturizers for any dry skin areas, rashes, irritations etc. I've been using it now and then ever since he gave it to me whenever I had "skin issues".

There are only 29 ml, but I only a very small quantity to apply on the damaged skin and it's quickly absorbed. It doesn't have a certain powerfull smell, it's not medicated, which is great as it's actually a treatment moisturizer. While this states to be used on extra dry skin, I find that it works great also for irritations, rashes, red skin etc. I don't lather this onto large skin portions, but only where I have the problems stated before or dry skin patches.

It's not a tick formula, more of a light, runny one, but it moisturises very well and calm any minor irritations one might have. I don't have a really dry skin so for my skin's needs, this work well. There is really much to say about this one just if you need that small extra help with some of your skin' issues, you should buy this.

Jergens has an impresive range of skincare: face&body moisturizers, sunscreens, oils, cleansers, creams etc. They even have a body BB cream which should give that natural radiance look to your skin. I'm sorry their range is not available in Romania, I have to look for their products online.

From what I've researched, the Jergens line is all drugstore so they are not expensive at all, just around 6-7 $ for the big size bottle (621 ml). Pretty good deal, I say!

I've been really trying lately to step out of my comfort zone and post more makeup looks I do every now and then. Today I have for you a fun look I did for a day out creating an olive green kind of eye look, that it reminded me of an enchanted forest, the lights between the green leafs, with a pop of color for the lips.

Review : The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil

Happy Friday, everyone!

The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil is my rescue whenever I deal with those hormonal little "monsters" every month. This is your classic treatment for minor acne blemishes and scars as well, as it kills bacteria and reduces inflamation during a night time so that in the morning it will look almost healed.

The tea tree essential oil is well known treatment for blemished skin, dandruff or other skin infections. It is the ingredient of many cosmetic products that fight acne mostly. The Body Shop's version is diluted so while it smells very strongly and it does sting a lit, it's safe to apply directly on the affected skin area.

The packaging is very cute, a 10 ml bottle with a nozzle so that the dosage can control the amount of product, as only a small quantity is needed for an application. The cap is very safe, as you have to press it down and then switch it open, so this makes it great for travelling without worries that it might leak.

It may look small, but trully the 10 ml will last for a long time as it's only applied when needed, depending on the gravity of one's condition.

The smell is very strong, very medicinal and minty so that you know it's working. The formula is not really oily, more a watery texture that can be applied dirrectly on the blemish and it's quickly absorbed into skin. It stings a little for 1-2 minutes but nothing too disturbing.

I like to use it at night, after I cleanse and moisturize my skin, applying it only on the affected areas where the breakouts are showing. In the morning, the inflamation, redness and swelling is almost gone.

There isn't really much more to say, it's a quick help for those in need that don't have a complicated skincare routine for fighting acne. And it's organic and chemical-free which is always a plus. It's not an overpriced product by any means, it's about 7 Euro in Romania, but can be found even cheaper in USA or other countries on The Body Shop website or stores.

NOTD, Review & Swatches: Easter Nails with Astor Fashion Studio Nail Lacquer #280 Mysterious Dawn

Happy Easter, everyone!

I hope you'll have a true wonderful holiday, full of peace and love! For today I have snatched a few pictures of my new, very quick manicure for Easter. I used a new addition to my nail polish collection, a beautiful red-orange creamy nail polish from Astor. Just look how shiny and creamy and opaque it looks just from 1 coat (I was really in a big hurry and couldn't do two, but I feel it's enough 1 for this one.

The shade is 280 Mysterious Dawn, a new shade in the collection Astor Fashion Studio. I have a bunch of these and I really like them all, but this color particulary seems so high end, from the application to the way it shines. It's a red-orange shade and depending on the light you can see more red or more orange tones.

The formula is perfect, no too light or too tick, it's so creamy and it goes on without streaks. The brush is large enough to cover the nails in 2-3 movements.

I only applied 1 coat of my Revlon Liquid Quick Dry and I was good to go. With 2 coats I'm sure it will looks full-on opaque, I can still see the nail a little but it's seriously very opaque. It will be my go to nail polish this spring and summer and I'm looking forward to purchase more shades from the new ones. There are some peaches, reds and pastels that look great. And they cost a little over 1 Euro each, can't beat that.
